Blaming Someone When A Person They Elected Fails To Deliver Amounts To Victim Shaming and Blaming.

Blaming someone when a person they elected fails to deliver amounts to victim shaming and blaming. This pettiness serves no purpose other than to stall accountability and glorify political conmanship.

When a person vies for an election and makes certain promises, it is their responsibility to deliver. Only a prophet would know for sure whether one would deliver or not. When they fail to deliver they must be criticised by those who voted for them and those who didn't.

How many people in this country were once considered unimpeachable champions of good governance and today they are dining with killers and oppressors of the people? These childish arguments are often made with respect to the presidency. But how many of those who voted are happy with their MP, Governor or even Senator? Should they be blamed for those failures? Should they be gagged from calling out such non-performance?

Many uninformed people will talk about how those who voted for Ruto ought to have been informed by his past. Do you know that a 30-year-old voter in 2022 was born in 1992? How is such a person yet they are the majority expected to know about the history of YK'92? They just hear stories but they have no idea what that was. This history we keep talking about isn't familiar to over 60% of the voters.

What moral authority do those who voted for Odinga have in blaming those who voted for Ruto? What is the difference between Raila and Ruto today? If Raila is okay with the looting and plundering going on doesn't it mean his government would have no problem perpetrating the same? The only people who can walk with their heads high are those of us who boycotted the 2022 elections after realising that Ruto and Raila were the same.

But be that as it may, this competition on who is right or wrong over how they voted is absolute nonsense. After elections, we all suffer the same fate regardless of how we voted. Why should we waste precious time fighting one another over the past instead of demanding for those in office to deliver?

How will leaders ever stop lying during campaigns if their victims will be the ones to take the blame for their lies? People even choose the wrong spouse and later divorce them. That is life.

There is nowhere in the world or in life where the past serves as a guarantee for the future. Even in the most advanced democracies, people criticise those they voted for daily. We need to stop these small-minded arguments. We need to build accountability systems which will make it easier for voters to recall non-performing leaders.
